Maria Karastergiou welcomes you to the AUROYOGA RETREAT 2016 in the island of Kefalonia, in Greece.

October 27 at 12:00 – October 31 at 18:00, Kefallonia, Greece

A 5-Day Journey of acknowledging and connecting with your True Self

By: Maria Karastergiou, PhD

Early registration (€70 discount) : €450.00 instead of €520.00

Early registration is available till the 10th of September or until the retreat is sold out, whichever occurs first.

Gathering together for five days of self-growth workshops, open-hearted talks, dialogues, silent and guided sitting, standing and walking meditations, yoga practice, and pranayama. In a supportive, non-judgmental, accepting, healing field of safety and goodness, we will explore more insightful and intuitive states of ourselves.

This retreat is dedicated to the exploration of authenticity, vulnerability, intimacy, and the journey of embodied spirituality.

Willing to become deeply intimate with your lived, embodied experience is a ‘shortcut’!

*bowing deeply to our True Selves
*Honouring our Divinity
*Accepting ourselves
*Discovering our authenticity
*Letting go of role-playing

1) Self-acceptance : is changing from the person we thought we were (conditioning) into the person we really are!

2) Self-acceptance: Changing from another, “better” person that we’re not yet ( Self-denial) into the person we really are. Our role-playing and denying our True Self is confining! Playing roles that are incompatible with our essence, imitating individuals or characters that think, feel, vibrate differently, and have a different purpose than ours in this life is in contrast with accepting and acknowledging our own essence, our True Self. With accepting our True Self we honor our experiences, our karma, we become aware of our uniqueness!

Breathe deeply! Observe the inhalation and exhalation process, feel your body, connect with the energy that surrounds you, hold your deepest longings, your deepest dreams, and your challenges in the loving arms of the ETERNAL NOW!.

In the intimacy of your awareness, in the acceptance of every single experience, in the light of your connection with your True Self, accept and embrace yourself. Live your own unique, authentic heart journey!

Registrations for the retreat will be taken in the order that they are received. We do expect to sell out.

*When you register here, please note that you are registering for tuition, shared accommodation and meals (two high-quality, locally-sourced vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan or raw vegan meals/daily).*

Optional activities will be proposed, as reflexology massages with professional therapists, consultations, horse riding, scuba diving, excursions in the archeological sites of the island, swimming in the most beautiful beaches of Greece, like Mirtos, hiking in the nearby villages.

Accomodation will take place in a beautiful villa, in front of the sea in the Greek island of Kefalonia (panorama-kefalonia.gr). It is likely that single room accommodations will fill very quickly, so if this is your preference, the price is 120€ more and we highly recommend that you contact us as soon as possible. ABOUT Maria Karastergiou, PhD

Maria grew up in the laid-back surroundings of the mountain Pelion in Greece and its closest town, Volos! Her parents’ big farm with plants, fruits, trees, animals, and natural springs sheltered her childhood dreams and her summer vacations.

Soon, creative inspiration flowed, and after majoring in psychology and sociology at Concordia U. in Montreal, she flew off to Paris to get acquainted with Psychoanalysis, Genetics, Psychopathology, Cognitive Development, Piaget, Wallon, Vygotsky, Jung, Felix Guattari, the great French writers Hugo, Baudlaire, Proust, French art, museums, galleries, music, refinement, subtle food! The energy and pace was addictive, the art scene quite inspiring, and the weather was not! (better than Canada though)

Living for fifteen years in Paris was a life-changing experience. After seven years of working in Paris she was invited in Greece to teach psychology at the University of Thessaly in 1990.

Lived in Athens the last 18 years, Maria has worked as a University lecturer, managed her own practice a a psychotherapist, and worked as a yoga and meditation teacher, conducting research, writing books, and organising yoga, meditation, and self-growth retreats and seminars.

At the beginning she was on the faculty at the Center of European Studies, where she was mentoring students seeking Masters' degrees in psychology. She also taught psychology courses at different universities in Greece. Since 1999 she has been practicing as a psychotherapist and spiritual counsellor.

She studied Psychology and Education in Paris (Masters, PhD, Université Paris VIII) and followed Andree Tabouret Keller’s seminar ‘Anthropologie du Langage’ at ‘L’Ecole des Hautes Etudes’, in Paris. She was also trained on different psychological and spiritual methodologies and practices in Europe, Canada, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. She published a few books available on Amazon.

While she was volunteering as a child psychologist at the Kindergarten School in the spiritual community Auroville, in Tamil Nadu, India, an epiphany occurred and Auroyoga was born. Different settings, heterogeneous languages, diverse countries, various therapeutic approaches, and many teachers have contributed to the creation of Auroyoga. An integration of her inner guidance, her professional training in psychology, philosophy, and education, as well as her personal experience and research in contemplative approaches to self growth and healing. Auroyoga is a contemplative approach for individuals who aspire to work on their personal growth, their spiritual awakening, their creative conscious living, to accomplish their purpose of lives. This work enhances a sense of well-being and joy and helps bringing awareness to the world's current challenging times. Over the last thirty eight years, she has participated in several conferences, workshops, seminars, congresses, and has written articles in scientific and spiritual reviews staying active on a research as well as on an educational level.

Travelling around the world, experiencing different cultures has been an important part of her life path. Since she had many opportunities throughout her life to travel and dialogue with people in various places across the globe many people on therapy with her living in multi-cultural situations have commented that they feel understood because of her direct intercultural experiences.

In Kefalonia, Greece

Accepting the reality, even in the midst of pain is a challenge.

*How can we learn from our challenges, our grief, our failures?
*How can we start embracing ourselves exactly as we are?
*How can we accept ourselves more fully, love more deeply, and be heartful and mindful in the midst of grief, loss, separation, divorce and challenges of intimate human relationships?

The alternative to a depressive state could be called the ‘move inward’, according to Jung. This is the more difficult path, the path of learning from one’s depression, not running away from it or getting rid of it. It reflects the Jungian perspective that the experience of meaning, even in and through depression, is a healing experience.

Jung in his poetic letter to a depressed woman advises her in these challenging, beautiful words!

‘When the darkness grows denser, I would penetrate to its very core and ground, and would not rest until amid the pain a light appeared to me, for ‘in excessu affectus’ Nature reverses herself...I would wrestle with the dark angel... For he is also the light and the blue sky which he withholds from me….Anyway that is what I would do. What others would do is another question, which I cannot answer. But for you too there is an instinct either to back out of it or to go down to the depths. But no half-measures or half-heartedness.

With cordial wishes,
As ever,
C.G. Jung’

By recognising and acknowledging our own darkness (our ignorance, our uncertainties, our mistakes, our doubts, our imperfect nature) can be healing. It’s the only way to stop projecting it on the world around us. Liberating us of the confining burden of perfection it allows us to experience our vulnerabilities, as an authentic human being.

Acknowledging our limitations doesn’t mean that we lack confidence, or that we’re negative. Even Socrates, the most wise and just Ancient Greek philosopher, exclaimed “Εν οιδα, οτι ουδεν οιδα» (Trans. “The only thing that I know is that I don’t know.”)

If even Socrates acknowledged his limitations, in terms of knowledge, why should our doubts be considered as pathological, our uncertainty as abnormal, our realization of our imperfect nature as pessimism?

Sometimes the states of rationalism and logic are less revealing than the states of vulnerability.

Sometimes it’s okay to feel angry! There is no need to suppress our anger, nor to express our anger either, but just to become aware that it’s there and to observe it! Without aversion, without hatred!

Our anger, our frustration, our anxiety are sensations are creations of our mind. When we accept these sensations, without identifying with them, without judging or criticizing them, or even naming them, but just observing them, they can be eradicated.

‘This also will pass’. Nothing remains the same. When we observe our sensations without reacting (without sankara), without aversion or attachment or craving, these sensations slowly cease to appear. They are no longer obstacles on our path, but rather become an invitation to awake.

Instead of fighting the reality, resisting it, blocking it, or trying to avoid it, better face it. After all, we created it! Understanding and accepting that our reality reflects our actions, feelings, intentions is helpful, healing, liberating! If, we are responsible of our reality, then we can change it. We can create a blissful reality by beautifying our thoughts, by deepening our knowledge, by purifying our intentions, by accepting our challenges, by helping other people, by sharing our merits…The freedom we long for is found in the eradication of our past sankaras and the dissolution of our Ego.
